Between January and October 2020, the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) obtained a total collection of $ 107 million as a result of the income from the flagging of ships, documents for seafarers and payments for port concessions, among others.

In the 12 months of 2019, the AMP raised $ 154.5 million and made a direct contribution to the National Treasury for $ 106 million.

The income collected by the state entity, which provides a service of international scope, in a year marked by an international crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, has shown a positive trajectory, making it possible to comply 100% with its obligations to the national treasury, indicates a note from the entity.

For example, Panama’s ship registry has continued to provide immediate response to ship owners through digital services, despite the pandemic.

The implementation of electronic services accelerated the procedures in the registry of ships and has contributed to the growth of the registration of ships in some 300 additional ships, so far this administration, according to the Merchant Marine Directorate.

The AMP reported that as a result of these revenues from the first 10 months of 2020, the entity made a direct contribution to the National Treasury for $ 78 million.

He added that aware of the need to maintain these contributions to the country, which have repercussions in the form of roads, bridges, sports centers, aqueducts, schools, among other infrastructures to improve the quality of life of citizens, the AMP made adjustments necessary within the operating and investment expenses to fully maintain the contribution made to the State coffers.
