A yogurt has the same sugar as the equivalent amount of a sugary soft drink. A study with almost 900 yogurts and assimilates shows that the vast majority are extremely sugary. Less than 9% of them are low in sugars, an even lower percentage in those for consumption of children and those who carry the organic label. The analysis has been done in the United Kingdom. The analysis also shows that also products with healthy image have been found to have a dark side as well.
IN 2015 The World Health Organization published a series of recommendations on sugar intake for both adults and children due to its relation with a number of diseases and obesity. In them, the WHO advised that the percentage of energy from free sugars (or those which have been added or not from a natural source) was less than 10% of the total calories ingested. The World Health Organization proposed a greater reduction, of up to less than 5%.
Each gram of refined sugar represents almost 4 kilocalories (kcal), therefore the maximum amount recommended for an adult (with a diet of 2,000 kcal / day) would be about 50 grams of sugar, half if a young or even less if is a child (always in an approximate way and for the upper threshold).
