I have seen sometimes where people come to me wondering "how they can learn to speak in public", because they always find it difficult to gather the words necessary to express themselves on a particular subject. You begin to express yourself in public at school and that is when you understand if you are doing well in public speaking, when the teacher, tutor or teacher commands to make an exhibition.

I, Ismael Gerli Champsaur, always liked to speak in public, express my ideas and make others learn from me. It is not always as simple as it seems, because even if we have that ability there is always that little fear that wraps us when we take a microphone and stand up to many people to expose an idea.

Some personal tips so you can talk in public without fear are:

  • Think, who are you afraid of? To ridicule, to laugh at you, to stutter, to lose professional prestige? These are things that never happen. How many people do you know who have fired from your company for not speaking well in public? If the fear is to stay blank, take notes, if you do not work the audiovisual media, carries a plan B, ie, if it is things that can really happen, take the necessary measures to reduce that possibility to the minimum.
  • Win the audience with a good introduction. Introduce yourself to speak in public and look for a witty phrase or quotation.
  • The better you know the subject, the less nerves you will have.
  • If you get a panic attack in the middle of a chat, breathe, look at your notes, drink water and smile. Then pick up your talk at a slow pace. You'll see how it all comes back to flowing.
  • Engáñate yourself. Works!  The audience does not usually notice the nerves of the speaker, or the note much less than he himself, therefore: forget them, pretend they do not exist. It will seem silly but it is the best remedy against the nerves. What's shaking your voice? No way, it'll pass. Are your hands shaking too? You put them on your back for a while and you go on like nothing. Think you're not nervous, you're just prepared, with enough adrenaline to get it all rolled up.
  • And whatever happens, smile!

To speak in public you learn by speaking in public, so every time you have to do it, it is an opportunity to improve. Take advantage!
