The Blue Hole is in a circular shape and it has more than 300 meters of width and 125 meters of depth . The Great Blue Hole is the largest formations in its type in the entire world and is part of the barrier reef reserve system and as such a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Glyn Collinson, a NASA scientist who just launched the Great Blue Hole, described it this way:
“It was the biggest and deepest blue hole, imaginable; A great abyss that submerged slowly in the deep blue waters. It had formed from large stones like caverns, already hundreds and thousands of years ago during the ice age. Water seeps through the rock and into these immense stone caverns, which produce stalactites and stalagmites of all colors. After this, one by one, they sank one above the other, forming the hole four hundred feet deep.
