In Panama City, on February 15, 2019, the Board of Directors of the Panamanian Canal Authority announced that the next administrator of the Panama Canal will be Mr. Catin Vasquez, who will take office on September 5, 2019. , who will replace the current administrator Jorge L. Quijano, who ends his seven-year term as administrator.

The decision was taken by the Board of Directors in accordance with the policy of transparency and rigorous mandates established by the Panamanian Constitution and organic legislation of the Panama Canal Authority.

As part of the autonomous processes, the Board of Directors developed its evaluation criteria based on an analysis based on its vision, mission and strategic values for the next years of operation. After months of strategic planning, the Board determined that the Mr. Vasquez possessed the necessary expertise to guide the waterway in his next era of growth

Mr. Vasquez has more than 30 years of experience in investments and financial matters, management in the public sector, held positions as president of the board of directors of the AMP, deputy administrator of the Panama Canal, among other charges.

He holds degrees, such as a doctorate in managerial economics, a master’s degree in research operations, and a master’s degree in economics.

To guarantee a balanced succession Mr. Vasquez will soon begin a period of transition under the guidance of the administrator Quijano who will be retiring after more than 40 years in the institution
